Raw honey is honey that is extracted directly from the beehive without any additives or industrial processing. It is taken from the honeycomb cells and lightly filtered to remove natural impurities such as beeswax or bee residues, while preserving its original properties.

In contrast, most commercial honey undergoes several additional processes such as pasteurization and ultra-filtration. The honey is heated to high temperatures to achieve a smoother and more consistent texture, but this process degrades many of the beneficial enzymes naturally present in honey. Ultra-filtration increases clarity and appearance but removes pollen and important nutrients, making it very difficult to trace the honey’s original source.

To meet the growing demand for honey, some commercial producers resort to mixing honey with sugar syrup. Large quantities of this adulterated honey are imported into the United Arab Emirates from various countries and are often labeled under general names such as “honey blend” or “flower honey blend,” making it difficult for consumers to determine the honey’s true source and quality.
